The Leeds Carnegie Touch Rugby Summer League is now venturing into it's sixth week and it is proving a roaring success. Despite facing a variety of elements from wind, rain and sun every consecutive Wednesday, eight teams have descend upon Yarnbury RUFC to take part in the seven a-side Touch Rugby League, led by Leeds Carnegie's Community Marketing Manager and British Lion John Bentley.
The teams are of mixed age and ability but despite each player's background, everyone has picked up the game well which has lead to some, fast - paced and exiting rugby in what can be described as a competitive and enjoyable league.
Flying high at the top of the league and unbeaten on 20 points are Cravern Crusaders, a team made up of players with previous rugby experience that they have clearly been able to transfer to Touch Rugby very easily. In second place are Steve Quins All stars who have lost just one game and lie just 3 points behind the table leaders. In joint third with 14 points are Yarnbury All Stars and Sharp Shooters. With two games remaining there is everything still to play for as the winning team will go on to represent Leeds Carnegie in the regional finals where the very best teams across England will be chosen to compete for the chance to be crowned Premiership Touch Rugby Champions of England at Twickenham Stadium.
John Bentley, Leeds Carnegie's Community Marketing Manager commented, "All eight teams taking part signed up with the same agenda - to play rugby in a fun and social environment in the summer months. It is great that we are able to provide the facility and set up for individuals and teams to do this. It is the first time we have run a league of this nature and owing to its success it is certainly something we will continue to run on an annual basis
