
USA international Mike MacDonald was named Leeds Carnegie's Players Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year at a glittering awards dinner this weekend.
The prop, who started every single Guinness Premiership game for Leeds after returning from the World Cup in France, was unanimous winner of the players poll picking up twice as many votes as runner up Tom Biggs. He was also the second recipient of the Colin Cramphorn Memorial trophy for the supporters player of the year, the trophy is named after the former West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable who passed away in 2006 and who was a huge fan of the club.
Speaking on the night MacDonald, 27, commented, "It is fantastic to receive this award especially as it is voted for by my fellow players and the supporters. It has been a difficult year but we are looking forward now to the challenge of next season and aiming to get back in to the Guinness Premiership. We have got a great team spirit here and everyone wants to be back at the top as soon as possible."
Other award winners on the night were young prop Phil Swainston, who was named Most Improved Academy Player, and James Craig, who was awarded Academy Player of the Year.
Veteran hooker Rob Rawlinson won the Commitment to the Community Award for his season long efforts away from his playing duties which included coaching the club's Academy front rowers, sessions at his adopted club Old Rishworthians as well as coaching at his home town club, Littleborough. Finally, 18-year-old Calum Clark picked up the Young Player of the Year award for an outstanding debut season in the Guinness Premiership.
