Leeds Carnegie still searching for a win

Stuart Hopper's last minute try prevented Leeds Carnegie from being held scoreless by Saracens at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.  Stuart Lancaster made six changes to the side that were defeated at Harlequins last week, with teenager Calum Clark coming into the side to make his debut, but they were unable to prevent another loss, leaving Leeds Carnegie without a win in their opening three games.
The Saracens side included three former Leeds players in Alan Dickens, Craig McMullen and Gordon Ross, who enjoyed a good return to his former club, scoring 9 of the visitor's points.  And it was the Scottish fly half who was instrumental in Saracens first try.  After nine minutes he set up centre Rodd Penney for a try before he added the first conversion to give Saracens a 7-0 lead.
Leeds then had chance to grab some points when they were awarded a penalty two minutes later, but Richard Welding's effort hit the posts.  To make matters worse moments later Ross added another three points when he successfully kicked a penalty for the Men in Black.
Leeds were unable to pose any real attacking threat in the first half and spent the majority of the period camped in their own half.  And it seemed like Leeds were to have no luck in the game when Welding was once again unable to successfully land his second penalty kick.
Before the first half came to an end Saracens brought the score to 17-0 thanks to a try from winger Richard Haughton who made an excellent run down the right wing.  Ross once again added the conversion.
In the second half both teams missed penalties and good defense from both sides prevented either from scoring in the opening 22 minutes.  Saracens finally broke through when youngster, Noah Cato, who had been a last minute addition to the squad following the injury of full back Francisco Leonelli, capped off a fine debut with a try in the left corner on 62 minutes.
Ten minutes later Saracens wrapped up the bonus point when Hugh Vyvyan touched down under the posts for their fourth of the game.  Glen Jackson, who had come on for Gordon Ross, added the conversion to bring the score to 31-0.  Leeds though showed great character to the very end and ensured they would not finish without a point on the board when skipper Stuart Hooper forced his way over under the posts.  Hinton added the conversion but it proved to merely a consolation with the referee blowing his whistle for full time shortly after.
