Lancaster proud of players effort

Leeds Carnegie Director of Rugby Stuart Lancaster said his side came up against their toughest opponents in defeat to Bath but says that his side can only learn from such experiences.
Bath ran in five tries to Leeds' one but they produced a dominant, attacking display that was only kept at bay by a heroic defensive effort from the visitors. Speaking after the game Lancaster said, "Quite a lot of credit must go to Bath, who were exceptional today.
"They are as good a side as we have played all season. We played Gloucester on the opening day but I would have to say the quality of performance by Bath today surpassed that. They've got pace and power and good footballers who give them width."
Lancaster added: "In a lot of areas, we competed well but we got into a slight catch-up game and, as we tired, they brought on fresh players. We came up against a side that is playing really well.
"However, I am proud of our players, they gave their all and played with a great deal of pride and passion. We are obviously disappointed to lose but you have to remember that Bath have been building this team for a number of years but that takes time. Giving players like Calum Clark, Danny Paul, Michael Cusack and Phil Nilsen the chance to play at a full Recreation Ground against Bath will stand them in good stead for their development.
"We will come away from this game and prepare for another tough match against Sale at Headingley Carnegie which is a challenge that excites us all," added Lancaster.
