In this weeks edition of Carnegie Call Director of Rugby Andy Key looks ahead to his side's trip to Exeter this Saturday.
HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT EXETER?
We have had the opportunity to look at their game against Esher last week but it is only one game. Esher were not afraid to run with the ball but they struggled in the forwards and that is definitely an area of strength for Exeter. Perhaps if we had had the choice we would not have picked Nottingham and Exeter as our first two games but once that was decided everything about our pre-season has been built around these two games and having got maximum points out of Sunday's game we are travelling down to the South West with plenty of confidence.
We know Matty Cornwell very well from our days at Leicester and he will be a threat in their midfield as well as the pace they have on their wings. But it is the forwards that make Exeter such a threat. They have a strong pick up and drive, a solid line out and a good scrum. There is a danger, however, that you can get too wrapped up in what the opposition are going to do and lose focus on your own jobs and responsibilities. We have tried to balance that out this week and we are very much looking to build on last weeks game and turning round a 30 minute performances into a 70 minute performance.
HOW IS YOUR TEAM SHAPING UP THIS WEEK?
Rob Rawlinson comes into the fray after recovering from a dead leg he suffered against Sale a fortnight ago and Richard Welding has earned a place in the starting line up after showing that he is back to full fitness with a telling contribution off the bench last week. The other injured guys are probably a week or two off being back to full fitness. We have got an A team game on Monday night against Northampton which will be good to give some players game time. The likes of Jason Strange and Erik Lund are not far off but the injuries are niggling ones that seem to be healing only to have a little set back. It will be a long season and we want to make sure these guys are right before bringing them back in.
