Player adoption scheme goes from strength to strength

Player adoption scheme goes from strength to strength

It's been a busy time out and about in the community lately with Leeds Carnegie stars dropping in at clubs across the region to help pass on playing tips.
On Wednesday 7th November, Goole RUFC played host to a Leeds Carnegie community evening where there was over 120 youngsters, aged between 5 and 16 in attendance.  John Bentley and the community team were joined by Leeds Carnegie stars Lee Blackett and Richard Welding.
The two hour session saw the youngsters put in to stations looking at handling, tackling, wrestling, and SAQ (speed, agility and quickness) before the players sat and went through a Question & Answer session.  Before the session finished every youngster received a Leeds Carnegie team poster and water bottle, and we welcomed many of those youngsters to Saturday's game against Leicester.
A week later another similar session took place at Wath RUFC, this time with 110 youngsters aged between 6 and 18.  Again, the youngsters were put in to stations with Leeds Carnegie stars Rhys Oakley and Hendrie Fourie circulating the groups and passing on tips to play better.  These community visits help Leeds Carnegie to develop the game at grass roots level and to help build links between rugby clubs across the region.  We have more player visits booked in over the coming weeks with Jonny Hepworth set to call in at Castleford and the Leeds Carnegie community team visiting Skipton RUFC to run a full evening of training.  For more information on the Player Adoption scheme please call Helen Saunders on (0113) 203 3285.
