West Yorkshire Police have teamed up with the Leeds Rugby Foundation to offer over 150 girls the chance to compete in a massive rugby tournament this Friday in Leeds. West Yorkshire Police are hosting the Police Sport U.K. Ladies Rugby Union section national tournament in Leeds on Friday 16th May. The girls' tag tournament is for schools from in and around the Leeds area, with 16 teams of ten taking part comprising of one tournament for under 14s and another for under 16 teams.
Leeds Rugby Foundation is the charitable trust that runs all community activity for Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carnegie. WY Police have enlisted the help of the Foundations Girls and Womens Co-ordinator Laura Clarke to help run the event, which will be held at Leos RUFC in Leeds between 1pm and 4pm on Friday. As well as the days activity, each school will also be provided with rugby equipment courtesy of sponsors, Strategic 999 and Northgate Information Solutions.  The event will be run by officers from across the U.K. who are actively involved in playing rugby union and league.
Commenting on the day, Laura Clarke said, "We hope to develop interest in the playing of both rugby union and league by girls in schools in the Leeds area and this event is intended to promote both codes in a common format. Rugby is a great way for the girls to enjoy exercise and have fun with their school friends in a safe environment."
Members of the media are welcome to attend the festival where a representative from West Yorkshire Police and the Leeds Rugby Foundation will be available for comment. If you wish to attend please call Laura Clarke on 07739006841.
