It is the first signing for new coaching duo Andy Key and Neil Back ahead of Leeds Carnegie's National One campaign which begins on August 31st against Nottingham.
Strange has spent the last four seasons with Bristol where he was a proven points scorer, amassing 825 points over 94 appearances and was Bristol's top points scorer last season. He played a key role in helping Bristol achieve promotion to the Premiership in the 2004-05 season, when he broke various Bristol league scoring records to see the team finish as National One Champions.
This will be the second time that the Welsh born fly half has played in Yorkshire, having previously played in the county with Rotherham during the 2003-04 season. Prior to this he spent the early days of his career in Wales where he played for Llanelli, Pontypridd, Ebbw Vale and Newport.
Commenting on the signing Leeds Carnegie's Director of Rugby Andy Key said, "We are delighted that Jason accepted our offer to come and join a squad that is bristling with excitement for the coming season. Jason's qualities speak for themselves and as he has shown throughout his career he has a canny knack in making the scoreboard tick! Jason joins a group of talented outside half's and competition for that match day spot will be intense. Jason's experience and leadership qualities will further strengthen the squad as we look to put a competitive squad together that will get us back into the Premiership."
Commenting on signing for the club Strange said, "When I came up to Leeds last week to meet with Andy and Neil I could see there were lots of good things happening at the club. It's going to be a tough challenge but it is a great opportunity for me and hopefully I will be able to help Leeds Carnegie get back to where they need to be. When I won promotion with Bristol it was very tough but very enjoyable also. It's a great community feel in National One and you are much closer with the supporters. Hopefully it will be the same with Leeds Carnegie in the new season. There are some very good sides in National One, like Exeter and Cornish Pirates and I know it will be a very competitive league. The difference between the Premiership and National One is that week in week out it's a tough old slog, but it is definitely a challenge that I am looking forward to."
Strange is the sixth new signing for Leeds Carnegie ahead of the new season with the team already having captured Henry Paul from Harlequins RL, Scott Barrow from Glasgow Warriors, Phil Murphy from Worcester Warriors, Jon Pendlebury from Gloucester and Pete Bucknall from Pertemps Bees.
