Leeds Carnegie have confirmed their home matchday fixture list for the 2008-09 National Division One season with the club retaining Sunday afternoon kick offs at 3pm.
Despite a disappointing season on the pitch last year in the Guinness Premiership, Leeds Carnegie saw their crowds grow massively during the campaign with the club posting its biggest ever average attendance of over 7,000, beating the previous best of 5,573 set in the 2004-05 season when the club won the Powergen Cup. The move to a later kick off on Sundays at 3pm proved popular with supporters, especially those with families were involved in local rugby on Sunday mornings.
Leeds Carnegie will begin their assault on National Division One on Sunday 31st August when title rivals Nottingham are the visitors. Leeds defeated Nottingham 28-15 at Headingey Carnegie the last time they met back in 2007. The big local Yorkshire derbies at Headingley Carnegie are against Otley on 14th September, Doncaster on 2nd November and Rotherham on 4th January whilst the fixture list has thrown up a massive last fortnight of the season with Carnegie playing Cornish Pirates in their final home game on 29th March before traveling to Plymouth on the last day, as they did two years ago to seal promotion to the Guinness Premiership.
Commenting on the fixture list Marketing Manager Nick Fletcher said, "We are all excited about the new season and the challenge of trying to get back into the Guinness Premiership. Fans have already shown their support for the team by purchasing their season tickets and with the early bird deadline of the 11th July fast approaching, we are urging fans who have not yet renewed to do so as soon as possible to make big savings.
"Nottingham are one of the most ambitious clubs in National Division One, which makes our clash with them a great game for us to open up with at Headingley Carnegie before our neighbours from Otley are here a fortnight later. It should make for an exciting start to what we hope will be a successful season," added Fletcher.
