Quartet named in England U20 squad

The Leeds Carnegie quartet of Calum Clark, Dan White, Phil Swainston and Jacob Rowan have today been named in England's 32-man squad for this season's Under 20 international programme.
The Under 20 Elite Player Squad will be coached by Mark Mapletoft and Martin Haag, playing RBS Under 20 Six Nations games before travelling to the IRB Junior World Championship (JWC) in Japan.
Ten of the 32 players were capped at this level last season and six appeared at the IRB Junior World Championship in Wales - Calum Clark (Leeds Carnegie), James Clark (London Irish), Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints), Ben Youngs (Leicester Tigers), Rob Miller (Newcastle Falcons), Luke Eves (Bristol Rugby) and Seb Stegmann (Harlequins).
The bulk of the rest of the squad is drawn from England's Under 18 ranks from the last two years, while flanker Carl Fearns (Sale Sharks) is one of those back in the mix after injury.
England have a high standard to aim at after sweeping to a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2008 before defeating Australia and South Africa to reach their first-ever world age-group final, where they were beaten by New Zealand, in June.
RFU Elite Rugby Director Rob Andrew said: "Last season we were able to mirror the new agreement between the RFU and Premier Rugby at Under 20 level and that gave us a great head start, particularly with the extra preparation time and the dual-registration scheme that allowed more Guinness Premiership players to go out on loan.
"That helped us achieve a Grand Slam and to reach a first-ever Junior World Championship final. I watched their win against France in Grenoble in the last Six Nations and that was probably my highlight of the season of all the England sides in terms of performance.
"We enjoyed fantastic success last year and a great deal of credit belongs to head coach Nigel Redman. The baton has now been passed to Mark Mapletoft with Martin Haag joining him in the coaching team and one of their challenges is to continue improving the programme.
"The Under 20 side is part of our wider development programme and selection of this squad was delayed until the Under 18s had finished their successful summer tour of Argentina. Martin Haag was involved in coaching that team and he now steps up with those players, who now have the incentive of winning a place in the team defending their Six Nations title and being selected for next year's Junior World Championship in Japan."
Former England fly half Mapletoft takes over from Redman, who is now the Elite Coach Development Manager at the RFU.
The Under 20 programme includes a four-day get-together this month and a warm-weather winter training camp in Portugal before the Six Nations begins with a home game against Italy on February 7.
Mapletoft said: "I know I've got some big shoes to fill and I learned a lot from working with Nigel over the last two years. His elevation to his new role is a testament to the work he's done.
"But Martin Haag and I go back a long way to touring with England together, we've got a good relationship and we're looking forward to working together.
"Although it's a big squad, we used 31 players in last year's Six Nations and 35 overall so I'm sure we'll be using the majority of them. A few more were unlucky to miss out so there's plenty of strength in depth. We've certainly given ourselves an interesting benchmark with our success last season.
"I'm looking forward to working with those still involved from last year's Under 20s, last year's Under 18s were unbeaten in their international games and joining the two together with some new players means it's a very exciting group and I'm looking forward to meeting up with them later this month."
Gloucester and Harlequins both contribute five players to the squad while another five of the 32 come from outside the Premiership, four of them from Leeds Carnegie and one - prop Ben Moon - from Exeter Chiefs.
