Carnegie Call

In this weeks edition of Carnegie Call, Director of Rugby Stuart Lancaster looks ahead to his side's trip to Gloucester this Saturday, kick off 3pm.

HOW DO YOU REFLECT ON LAST WEEKS GAME?

Last weeks performance was probably one of the most disappointing of the season in so much that the players and coaches desperately wanted to put on an occasion to reward the fans for their support this year. Unfortunately, the nature of the conditions and pitch conspired against free flowing rugby and both sides struggled to get any continuity. Without us getting the rub of the green on refereeing decisions, we compounded the problem by not executing our core skills consistently. There were times in the game when we did create some good momentum but ultimately it was frustrating to lose by four tries when I didn't feel, even though Quins are third in the league, were that much better than us.

HOW ARE YOU APPROACHING THIS WEEKS GAME?

We have dealt with that frustration during the week and are we determined to improve on that performance in what undoubtedly is going to be a huge challenge at the league leaders, Gloucester. Whilst we have injuries, it is a great opportunity for some of our young players to gain experience at the highest level and we are all looking forward to the trip and challenging ourselves at the top end.

HOW IS YOUR SIDE SHAPING UP?

Regardless of the injury situation, Luther Burrell has more than deserved his chance as he has improved consistently throughout the year whilst Scott Armstrong has the opportunity to transfer his recent form in the A team to the bigger stage. Alongside Saturday's game, we have the prospect of a Yorkshire Cup semi final against Doncaster next Wednesday which will be a great opportunity for other academy players to test themselves against what I am sure will be a very strong Doncaster outfit.
