Leeds Career

Leeds Carnegie fans first got a glimpse of young centre Luther Burrell during the 2006-07 when he made his debut against Pertemps Bees.  That was his only senior appearance that season, however he continued to shine for the club's A team where he consistently performed at the highest level.  Last season he once again broke through to the first team squad and made his Guinness Premiership debut against Saracens.  Alongside his development with the first team Luther also played with the club's Academy team where he had a pivotal role in the side.  He made his second first team appearance off the bench in the home game before earning a place in the starting line up for the games against Gloucester and London Irish.
Luther is a powerful, hard running centre who before joining Leeds Carnegie played for Huddersfield RUFC. During the 2006-07 season he emerged as one of the most promising players in the Academy.  He scored a try against Newcastle to help the Development XV to a 20-17 win and scored again against Sale in another memorable victory.  In the 2005-06 season Luther played in the Development XV's successful Yorkshire Cup campaign and with some impressive displays whilst in the Academy set up he has been tipped as being a massive part of the club's future.

Rugby Career

Luther has also experienced playing Rugby League and before joining his local Rugby Union side spent two years with Huddersfield RL.  During the close season Luther has also been working hard to build up his fitness and has been training with the club's sister club Leeds Rhinos to gain some match experience which will stand the young star in good stead as he aims kick on from his promising end to last season and aim to secure a regular place in the side, whilst helping the team once again win promotion to the top flight this season.

Personal Details

Luther studied at All Saints High School in Huddersfield, before going onto further his studies at Huddersfield New College. His first job was a shop assistant and when he retires from playing he would like to go into the restaurant business.
