Leeds Career
Since signing for Leeds Carnegie in 2006, Castleford born player Jonny Hepworth has proved to be a valuable addition with his versatility to play in a number of positions. During the 2007-08 season Jonny played at centre, full back and fly half and proved he was capable in each of these roles.
It is not the first time Jonny has proved his adaptability, having started out his career in Rugby League with Leeds Rhinos youngster before switching codes to join Leinster.
At Leeds Rhinos he was given his Super League debut from current Leeds Carnegie coach Daryl Powell, and it was after discussions with his former boss that jonny decided to return to England and join Leeds to assist in their bid to return to the Guinness Premiership.
Jonny missed just two games for the side all season and scored some crucial tries that put the club in a strong position for promotion. His two tries against title rivals Cornish Pirates at Headingley Carnegie ensured the team finished the 21-20 victors to secure a vital edge in the league. Last season he made his Guinness Premiership debut against Gloucester and went onto make 23 appearances over the season and scored 5 tries.
Rugby Career
Jonny is originally from Castleford and played junior rugby for the Castleford Panthers before joining Leeds Rhinos. Jonny however struggled to break into the Rhinos' senior team and only made one first team appearance. Hepworth briefly joined Rugby League outfit London Broncos on loan in 2002, but eventually signed for his hometown club Castleford Tigers in 2003 originally on loan, but later making the move permanent. At the end of the 2004 season, following Castleford's relegation from the top flight Jonny switched codes and joined Celtic League side Leinster, where he made six appearances and scored one try. He also played for the Clontarf club during his development in the fifteen man game.
