Leeds Career

Jon Dunbar is one of the longest serving players at the club having joined Leeds Carnegie in the 2004-05 season.  Since that move he has been one of the team's most consistent performers and continues to show his versatility with his ability to play at number eight or at flanker.
He began last season with a try against Gloucester but a hamstring injury in the second game caused a set back, ruling him out for eight matches.  He later returned to the side to play a further 14 times.
The former Newcastle player made his Leeds debut off the bench against Gloucester in 2004 and then forced his way into the starting line up for the London Wasps game after scoring his first try in his second match against Leicester Tigers.
At Newcastle Jon was part of the side who won the Powergen Cup and in his first season at Leeds he helped the side to Twickenham where he was part of the side who triumphed over Bath.
In the 2005-06 season Jon played 23 games for Leeds, and following the club relegation he pledged his future to Leeds and over the next season was inspirational in the team's fight for promotion when he was an almost an ever present for the side.  His incredible performances were recognised when he was named the 2006-07 Player of the Season.

Rugby Career

He originally played for Grove RFC in Oxfordshire before moving to Newcastle where he developed through the Falcon's Academy system. He made his debut against Leicester Tigers on the opening day of the 2001-2002 season and was picked a further 22 times that campaign. Jon's time at the Falcons culminated with a key role in the Powergen Cup Final winning side in April 2004 starting in the final line up. Jon played 49 times for Newcastle and scored 4 tries. Although born in Germany Jon has played at all development levels for England from U18 to U19 up until U21, but also qualifies for Scotland as both of his parents were born in Edinburgh and he was honoured to represent the Scots in the 2005 Six Nations and last year was part of the Scotland A squad that reached the Churchill Cup Final in Canada.

Personal Details

At University he took European Studies after attending Abingdon School. His favorite film is Bladerunner, his favorite programme is the West Wing and his favorite food is a chicken salad. He rates Paul MacKinnon, the Newcastle U21 coach, as the person who had the greatest influence on his career because he helped him a lot with his rugby and also Martin Brewer who did likewise but from a different angle.
