Former London Irish scrum half Darren Edwards, 32, signed for Leeds Carnegie on a two year contract for the start of the 2006-07 season. Darren was the first choice scrum half in his debut season at the club, making 24 appearances and helping the team achieve promotion to the Premiership. In his second season at the cub he battled with Joe Bedford for a place in the first team and went onto make a further 6 appearances and scored his first try for the club against Gloucester.  At the end of the season he announced his retirement from playing.  In total he made 27 starts and 10 replacement appearances for the club.

Rugby Career

Born in Maesteg in Wales, Darren first played in England with Saracens before joining Bedford, where he made a try scoring league debut back in March 1996. He followed that up with another try in his only other league start for Bedford when they were one of only two sides to beat Newcastle in their record breaking season. He then joined London Welsh where he was an almost ever present in the side for three seasons. He made 71 appearances between 1997 and 2000 and scored 11 tries in the process. Darren returned to Wales in 2000 to join Newport and spent one season at the club, playing in their Heineken Cup campaign that season. Darren opted to exit the club in 2001 to test himself in the Premiership with London Irish.
He made his debut for the Exiles against Harlequins and made two appearances against Leeds Carnegie that season. He made 21 appearances in his debut campaign and scored his first try in the 48-12 win against Northampton Saints. The following season he once again competed in the Heineken Cup and aided Irish to a 24-8 win over Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup with a try at the Madejski Stadium. Darren made over 100 appearances for the Exiles. Edwards was a 56th minute replacement in the Powergen Cup Final in 2002 when Irish claimed the first piece of silverware in the club's history. He has representative honours for Wales Schools/Youth, U21, Students and Sevens and in 2003 appeared for the Barbarians, scoring a try in the 24-15 win over Scotland.
