Samoan international Anitelia "Andy" Tuilagi originally joined Leeds Carnegie on a season loan from Leicester Tigers, however he proved to be big hit with the side and the club were happy to extend the young player's stay at the club for a further season. Andy made his club debut against London Welsh on the opening day of the season and was again named as replacement in the following game against Newbury, however in this game he broke his hand which sidelined him for over a month. He returned to the side for the 77-15 away win against Waterloo and from then on was a regular in the team. He made 6 starts and 14 appearances at replacement, where he made the most impact by providing a useful attacking burst to keep the pressure on the opposition, registering four of his five tries for the campaign when he came on from the bench. The following season as the team returned to the Guinness Premiership Tuilagi made just seven starts for Leeds Carnegie and scored one try and at the end of the season the club announced that they had cancelled the final year his contract and the centre was released by mutual agreement.
The 15 stone centre joined Leicester in 2005, previously having played for Fogapoa Rugby Club in Samoa. He became the fourth member of the Tuilagi family to play at Leicester since elder brother Freddie made the move from St Helens rugby league club in June 2000. Andy has gained 13 caps for Samoa and was a try scorer for his country in a 53-9 victory over Japan. Andy has played in 8 of his country's World Cup qualifiers and will miss the beginning of Leeds Carnegie's Premiership campaign as he will be on duty with the Samoan national team as they compete in the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.
