Leeds Carnegie will begin their National One campaign against Nottingham at Headingley Carnegie on Sunday 31st August, kick off 3pm.
Nottingham are expected to be one of the front runners in the competition next season, having finished a close third behind Exeter during the 2007-08 season.  Despite Nottingham losing one more game than the Chiefs, the two teams still finished level on points with Nottingham securing more bonus points.  This was a considerable improvement on the previous season when Nottingham had finished in ninth spot.
Nottingham gained promotion to National One after finishing in a promotion spot in the 2003-04 season.  In that first season in the division they finished 11th - their lowest finishing position, whilst their best end of season standing was their third spot last season.
During the 2006-07 campaign Leeds defeated Nottingham on two occasions.  In the first game Tom Rock and Jon Dunbar both scored tries each whilst Leigh Hinton landed three conversion and two penalties to secure the 37-30 win.  In the second fixture at Headingley Carnegie Leeds claimed a try bonus thanks to tries from Chris Hughes, John Holtby, Kearnan Myall and Pelu Taele, who was making just his second start for the side.  Hinton once gain scored the rest of the points with four conversions.
Nottingham have yet to record a win over Leeds, however they did have better luck over the two teams who formed Leeds Carnegie - Headingley and Roundhay.  Nottingham played Headingley on 38 occasions and although the Leeds team won the majority of games between the clubs, it was a close call, with Headingley claiming 19 wins and Nottingham 17.  Roundhay played Nottingham four times and won on three of these occasions.  One of Roundhay's most famous ex players, former England hooker Brian Moore actually left the Leeds club to join Nottingham.
