Leeds Career
Carl originally came on loan from Edinburgh Reivers at the end of the promotion winning season and made 25 appearances that year. The following season he was unable to build on this and his appearances for the side were limited to just 4 as replacement. He stayed another year with the club and made a further two appearances off the bench before leaving at the end of the 2003-04 season.
Rugby Career
Carl has been capped five times for Scotland and would have made more appearances but for injury whilst at the Reivers. Carl originates from the Borders and before the Super Clubs were formed in Scotland he played for his home town club of Melrose. Carl won six Championships with Melrose in eight years as well as the league and cup double in 1996-97, and he went on to captain the side and Scotland A the following season. Carl has represented Scottish Schools, U19, U21, and Scotland 7's as well as touring with Scotland to Australia 92, South Seas 93, Argentina 94, and South Africa 97. Carl also spent time with the Warringah club in Sydney. When he left the Tykes he took up a position with London Welsh as player/coach before returning back north of the border to work with Edinburgh.
