Leeds Career

Clive Stuart-Smith joined the Tykes in June 2003 from Gloucester on a one year contract. A highly talented young scrum half, Stuart-Smith was part of the Gloucester squad that reached both domestic finals in 2003. He made his Tykes debut during the 2003-04 season but was unable to become a first team regular, making just 6 starts and scoring 1 try. He keft at the end of the season to join Worcester Warriors.

Rugby Career

Clive was a product if the highly acclaimed Gloucester Academy based at Hartpury College and emerged into the Cherry and Whites first team along with the likes of Marcel Garvey and James Simpson-Daniel during the 2002-03 season. During his first full season he appeared on the bench on 17 occasions, coming on four times and started two games, including a defeat at Headingley against the Tykes. Stuart-Smith is a former England U19 captain and played for England U21 under Tykes Assistant Coach Jon Callard during the summer of 2003. He was cruelly denied the chance to lead his country in the FIRA U19 Worls Championships in Italy in 2002 when he had to withdraw from the squad because of injury. He ruptured a tendon in his elbow in the build up to the tournament after being an outstanding captain that first season, winning the Man of the Match award in the 15-3 win against France and leading the side superbly in the four games that year.
