Leeds Career
Phil was an instant hit in his first season at the Tykes after joining in April 2002 from Bristol Shoguns. He was named both the Players Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year and his efforts were recognised with a place on the England tour to New Zealand and Australia, although he did not play.
The abiding memory of his first season was when he scored two tries in the Powergen Cup Quarter Final against league leaders Bath at Headingley that put Leeds into their first ever Cup semi final.
At the end of the 2004/05 season Phil left the Tykes at having helped the side avoid relegation with a crucial try over fellow relegation strugglers NEC Harlequins and winning a Powergen Cup medal.
Over his time with the Tykes Phil played 52 games and scored 10 tries for the club.
Rugby Career
Christophers rose to national attention in 2002 playing for England against the Barbarians which he followed up by making a try scoring full debut for England that summer against Argentina and has subsequently appeared against South Africa and Wales in the 2002-2003 season.
Phil was a regular in the eleven shirt for the Shoguns and a regular in the England squad during the 2002/03 season, as well as making a handful of appearances at outside centre for the Shoguns.
Previously a member of the Leicester Academy, this Loughborough University languages student originally made a name for himself in 2000 when he went to spend a year in France intending to play on the left wing for the Brive Academy. Instead he became a first team regular, scoring 9 tries in 27 appearances whilst continuing his development with England Under-21's.
Personal Details
Phil was born in Heidelberg in Germany, his mother is German, and he went to school there until he was 16. However, his English father's enthusiasm for rugby over football meant he was introduced to the sport as early as four years old watching videos of his childhood hero David Duckham.
He spent the sixth form at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and went on to study languages at Loughborough. Upon completing his studies he signed full time with the Shoguns.
