LEEDS CARNEGIE 31 DONCASTER 10

Firstly a strong A side, which included the likes of Vili Ma'asi, Erik Lund, Pablo Bouza, Hendrie Fourie and Mark Lock, recorded a resounding 70-0 win over their Doncaster counterparts. Following this the first team took on one of their biggest rivals for the National One title last year and ran in five tries to secure a 31-10 win over the Knights.
It took seven minutes for Leeds Carnegie to score their opening try, which came from last year's Young Player of the Year, Kearnan Myall, who found space in the Doncaster defence to score under the posts. Summer signing Alberto Di Bernardo got his Leeds Carnegie career off to a great start by slotting home the conversion. Ten minutes later after sustained pressure from Leeds, another new signing, Joe Bedford, was able to weave his way through the Doncaster players to register his first try for the club, Di Bernardo was again on target to extend the team's lead. On 23 minutes the Argentinean himself went in for the team's third try. After winning possession from the line out the fly half powered his way over in the corner, before adding the conversion to bring the score to 21-0. From the restart Doncaster put pressure on the Leeds Carnegie men and had their best chance of the game, spreading the ball out wide across the Leeds line, but the Leeds defence stayed strong to keep the visitors out. The next try once again came from the lineout, Rhys Oakley collecting the ball before offloading to Sam Stitcher who touched down in the corner. This time Di Bernardo was unsuccessful with the conversion. Before the end of the first half Lee Blackett, making a return to the side from a lengthy injury, went close to adding the fifth try of the game but was stopped just before the line, leaving the half time score 26-0.
Doncaster came out fighting and showed their intentions to make sure this was not going to be another whitewash. There was no score for the opening 23 minutes, with neither side showing any real attacking threat, the nearest Leeds came was on the 56th minute when Jonny Hepworth made good ground, sprinting his way from deep in his own half to be just closed down before the line.
On 63 minutes Leeds were finally able to break through with Stuart Hooper powering his way over to bring the score to 31-0. James Brooks, who had taken over kicking duty though was unable to slot over the conversion.
Stuart Lancaster then brought on fresh blood, in the shape of promising youngsters Tom Denton and Calum Clark, to make their first run out in the first team, but Leeds were unable to extend their lead further. Doncaster finally got points on the board on the 76th minute through replacement Richard List to bring the score to 31-5 going into the closing minutes of the game. Doncaster kept up the pressure and were soon in again as Mark Soden evaded Tom Biggs to go in at the corner with the final play of the game. Both Doncaster conversions were missed, leaving the final score 31-10 to Leeds Carnegie.
