The Tykes travelled to Devon on the final day of the season and played their full part in an entertaining 22-22 draw with Leeds scoring four tries to the home side's three.
The home side, who had started the season as one of the Tykes main title rivals, were without ten players through injury but included the league's leading try scorer Nicolas Sestaret on the wing.
Leeds mounted the early pressure but when Mike MacDonald was penalised for holding on it gave the home side the chance to make the most a strong breeze at their back. The penalty kick set up a line out 15 metres out and after a number of drives to the line, the ball was released and centre Regardt Van Eyk crashed over from the pass by Edward Barnes. Van Eyk added the conversion to make it 7-0 after 4 minutes.
The game was being played in an open fashion and it was not long before Leeds got the chance to get their first points of the game. Having kicked a penalty to touch, Bouza took the line out ball and the maul was driven towards the line. Eventually, the ball was released and Mike MacDonald crashed over for his eleventh try of the season after ten minutes.
Four minutes later the Tykes took the lead when Tom Biggs wriggled out of an attempted tackle by Van Eyk to drive in at the corner after a clever break by Richard Welding had put Albion on the back foot. Hinton missed both conversions but Leeds now led 10-7.
Leeds had further opportunities with Welding, Biggs and Hepworth looking dangerous on the ball whilst Mike Aspinall continued his impressive form of late at scrum half. However, poor work in the contact area was costing leads the chance to get more points on the board.
Welding stopped a certain try for Van Eyk on the half hour after Leigh Hinton misjudged a bouncing ball and the Albion centre latched on to it race through only to be caught by Welding.
The Tykes winger then made the home side pay when he went in for his 15th try of the season with three minutes remaining in the half. Aspinall showed great presence of mind to take a quick tap 35 metres out that caught the Albion defence flat footed before passing to Hinton. The full back drew the last man before popping a pass to Welding to race down the touchline and score. Hinton could not add the extra's again so despite scoring three tries to one, the Tykes lead was still only 15-7 at half time.
Just as in the first half, Plymouth made the best start to the half after the interval when they scored within three minutes. Fly half Barnes chipped over the Leeds defence for winger Thomas Arscott to catch on the first bounce and scamper over for the try. Van Eyk conversion was wide but Plymouth were right back in the game at 15-12.
Worse was to come for Leeds after 50 minutes when Arscott was reminisent of a young Franz Klammer as he weaved his way through the attempted tackles of Colin Noon and Leigh Hinton before going through untouched to score between the posts. Van Eyk had no problems with the conversion to make it 19-15 to the home side.
That try led to immediate action by Stuart Lancaster with four changes coming at the restart.
Within ten minutes the entire bench had been sent into action and it seemed to make a difference as the Tykes got a spring in their step again.
Eventually it led to a score when Welding cut through the home defence before offloading to Hooper. The Leeds skipper kept his feet and passed Myall who released Mark Lock for the try. Hinton this time was able to convert to make it 22-19 with fifteen minutes remaining.
However, Plymouth were not done yet and levelled the game two minutes later with a penalty from Van Eyk from 43 metres out after Tom Rock was penalised for taking the man out in the air.
Leeds were then reduced to 14 men when Richard Vasey went off injured and all the replacements had already been used. However, that loss seemed to serve to bring the best out of the Tykes especially the forwards. Leeds dominated the last ten minutes of the game as they camped on the Plymouth line but despite good opportunities, most notably for Tom Biggs with the last play of the game, the home side hung on to claim a draw and deserved share of the spoils.
